Friends & Family: May 2006 Archives
There's a current television advertisement talking about a guy who needed three (3) orders of flowers because he had a wife (who was presumably a new mother or had deadbeat children), an actual mother and a grandmother.
This Mother's Day - and four (4) orders later, I wonder: While florists exist on death and holidays, their growth as a business is amplified by the more we change our nuclear family picture into a: Mom, Step-Mom, Two-Mommy, Nanny while Mommy has a Girlfriend scenario. You see, the florists cannot change the number of women walking the planet but they can change the number we send flowers to on holidays by accepting alternative lifestyles as normal, everyday "families". More Mom-types = more sales of chocolates and flowers.
Think about it Bushy. Its good for business. No matter how PC their advertisement is I guarantee that 800-Flowers thinks about it - every day for a whole year...or at least the ad department does.
While placing my online orders (with one more for good measure), I played: Xanadu from the album "Xanadu" by ONJ & ELO.
